Bursaries for High School Students: Julie and Malik have been working on this initiative and we will once again present bursaries to several high school students. There is an opportunity for our members to visit graduation ceremonies for the chosen candidates. Julie and/or Malik will provide more details on this very soon. We will also host the successful candidates and their parents/teachers at KS. The date for this event is yet to be confirmed.
Youth Homelessness: Lisa spoke on this issue which is dear to her heart. As a social worker in the Ottawa school system, she is dealing with youth homelessness daily. The reasons youth become homeless are very diverse. They could be facing abuse at home, addictions, poor mental health, etc. Everyone deserves a place to call home. What can we do as Rotarians to help solve this issue? Thank you to Lisa for enlightening us on this social issue and it is an issue that requires further discussion and attention.
Community Blend Coffee: One of our members donated 36 bags of coffee to the Salvation Army this week. Rosemary gave the coffee to senior members of the church and community at a luncheon on Thursday. Senior members of the church and community have experienced isolation, loneliness, and fear during the pandemic. Ottawa Citadel has been providing lunch and fellowship, once a month, to help alleviate some of these concerns. The coffee came at a perfect time, and it was well received. Thank you to our doner.
