RoTell - August 4, 2021

Rotary Club Ottawa South eBulletin

via Zoom
Editor: Scott Vetter, Guest Editor: Jeanine Parker, Guest Photographer: David Oliver

Regrets: Scott, Robyn, Rosemary

President Dave led us in O Canada. We toasted Rotary, Canada and the Queen. Mac had a short, meaningful prayer.

Announcements

  • Dave likes the idea of the new Rotary International President’s directive: Each One Bring One. So start thinking of who you can bring to a meeting.

  • As requested by Dave, Jeanine brought forward the email she sent to club members on August 1st. She asked Rotarians to read it if they haven’t, answered several questions about the Uganda project, and asked members to consider a personal donation to the club specifically for the girls’ education. If you are able to do so, a tax receipt will be issued. Jeanine needs to hear by the end of September.

  • Joan brought us up to date on the August 11th meeting: Scott will provide an introduction to Rotel, to Susie and to Laird. Dave will present Paul Harris Fellowships to Susie and Laird. Joan is working out details for food and will contact club members as to their participation.

  • Mac stated he’s been in touch with John Staple, a former president of the club who scooted off to Newfoundland to retire. John sends best wishes.

  • August 18th will be a zoom meeting.

  • The president of the Kemptville Club has requested to speak to us on August 25th.

  • Jeanine took the floor once again as the “Get to Know…” speaker this week.

  • Bobby, from KS on the Keyes, explained his proposal for us. Before COVID, we were not charged a room rental. He’s proposing we be charged $150 per meeting and explained to us what is behind this proposal. This will guarantee the room for our use. The screen and sound system is available to us any time we need it; just advise. Everyone will pay for their own meal. If you want to bring your own food, that’s fine. Eva suggested we receive our bills right after meals are delivered; people need to be able to pay and leave when it works for them. Dave stated he will put together a schedule until December so Bobby knows well ahead of time when we will not require the room as we will be meeting by zoom.

Happy Bucks

Happy Bucks revolved around golf, meeting in person and visiting Beyond Van Gogh.

The meeting wrapped at 1:40. Several members hung around to chat.

It was REALLY nice to see everyone and meet in person again.
