Announcements

  • Lunch Meetings: Joan spoke with Bobby at KS and the restaurant is not open at lunchtime. She is still waiting to hear if it will open up during lunch hour in September.
  • Backpacks: We had a lengthy discussion on backpacks and supplies for this school year. Moe has not heard from his contact as of today, so we will move forward with club funds and purchase what we can. Rosemary suggested we focus on supplies only and not provide backpacks for this school year. The members were in agreement with this plan. Jeanine volunteered to sew cloth bags for the school supplies. A huge thank you to Jeanine for offering to provide such a generous gift. Dave suggested we go to Giant Tiger for the school supplies. Giant Tiger has been good to the club when we purchase gift cards at Christmas time. Dave, Moe and Rosemary will get together and purchase supplies for next Tuesday, 25 August 2020.
  • Joan asked if we would endorse Dave Gough as the new chair of Community Services and Moe as the chair of Youth Services. We were all in agreement.

Guest Speaker

Bill Kelly

Bill is from a military family and has lived all over the United States. He joined the Marines at seventeen years old and attended the University of Pennsylvania. He is a passionate social entrepreneur with a keen interest in renewable energy development.

Bill and his wife Sherri have recently moved to Canada from Dallas and replicated their business New Power 99. It is a battery replacement kit business which also provides ‘how to’ videos to replace the batteries in electronic devices.

As a member of the Rotary Club in Dallas, Bill was a member of the Ethics Committee. As Bill spoke, we realized he has much to offer our club and we proposed he be the chair of our Membership Committee. He graciously accepted. We look forward to getting to know Bill and are excited to hear more about his life and business adventures.
