Announcements
  • There will be no meeting next Wednesday (22 Aug). Our meeting will be held next Thursday evening (23 Aug) at KS and we will discuss our fundraising efforts as we go forward.
  • Peter White spoke to us about a social event he would like to organize at a winery in Richmond. More details to follow.
  • Joan asked if there was any interest in the Denim and Diamonds fundraiser for Youth Now Farm. There was no interest from our club members.
  • Scott and Riley (from Rotaract) met with other Rotary Clubs on Monday to discuss Rotary’s image in Ottawa. It’s an initiative to keep all the clubs  up to date on events, and to ensure the clubs are all connected. There is a Facebook page Rotary in Ottawa – Gatineau where each club can post their events.
  • Riley also spoke to us about the Rotary Home’s Amazing Race. Riley is participating and he is canvassing for support to help him and his teammate raise $1400.00 for this event.
  • Bernie asked for the minutes from the last Board Meeting. Alex will send those out ASAP.

Happy Bucks
Josee White accepted everyone’s happy bucks!

50/50
Frederick White helped us out with 50/50. The pot for 50/50 is $250.00 according to our president, Joan. Frederick drew Alex’s number but Alex was not successful in drawing the joker.

Speaker
Luigi Maiorino was our speaker today. His parents were Italian immigrants. Luigi started working with his dad at the age of 10. His father taught him the value of hard work. He has a BA from Carleton University. Initially, he wanted to study Geography but took some business courses in marketing and developed a passion for advertising and marketing. He worked in the advertising arm of Algonquin Travel early in his career and then moved to Ottawa Penny Saver. He worked there for 14 months and applied for a position with the radio station Energy 1200 and worked there from 1988-1993. In 1994 he worked at CFRA and Cool FM and eventually moved to Bell Media. In 2014 he went out on his own and now helps people negotiate advertising deals. If you would like to know more about Luigi and his business visit his website at saleswell.ca.
