Warrant Officer Sammy Sampson
  • Quora - Night at the Races: October 20, but notify Alex by Oct 4. A fun night to support the Shepherds of Good Hope, tickets are $70.
  • Ottawa Rotary Home is hosting its annual Whisky & Wine fundraiser on Friday September 27. Master appreciation classes, much sampling, tasty nibblies, live and silent auction. A great opportunity to meet people and mingle overlooking Elgin St at the KPMG offices. See more.
  • Dictionaries 4 Life: Moe will be distributing dictionaries at Charles Hulse PS (2605 Alta Vista Dr.), 9am on Tuesday October 8. Let Moe know asap if you'd like to participate.
  • Jonny Kung raised over $1300 for MS, cycling over 200 km. He thanks everyone who donated.
  • Jacques Laquerre is getting his second knee replaced, perhaps the new one will be able to keep with him.
50/50 Draw
Peter and Melissa had the winning ticket, with winning smiles to match, but the grinning ebbed as a three of diamonds was drawn. The Joker hides as the pot rounds $180.
Happy Bucks
Scott Vetter collected our happy bucks.
Guest Speaker
Warrant Officer Sammy Sampson
Sammy is a well-decorated army vet, having served on 8 missions and 7 tours in many countries. Since his retirement he has worked in IT and as a private consultant, including with the PMO. He now spends much if his time working for health and safety advocacy for deployed troop and vets.
That consulting work has given him the opportunity to learn quite a bit about our government and the role of Parliament, and he shared some fascinating facts with us. For instance, only 6 Parliamentarians are on a committee that decides whether Canada deploys its military might.
A very engaging speaker, Sammy gave a very interesting and thoughtful presentation.
President Alex ended the meeting promptly at 1:30pm.
