Happy Bucks
Jacques was the purveyor of happiness. Actually, we brought our own happiness, he simply charged us $1 to tell the tale. But he smiled as he did, so we felt all the happier for it.

50/50
Hector dealt the 50/50 draw. Mack was lucky enough to have the winning ticket and lucky enough to pull an Ace from the deck! Too bad, we’re looking for the Joker. Sam is refusing to tell us the value of the pot. Seems he will decide how much it is worth once he knows who has won.

Presentation on Youth Now Farms

Melanie Bania gave an informational and uplifting presentation on Youth Now Farms. It is a relatively new initiative that runs a farm on 70 acres of land near the intersection of Anderson and Russell roads. They have three youth working full-time and give many seminars and workshops for youth. They are working with the NCC to refurbish existing building and land.

Their President is a Rotarian and looking for support from area clubs.

The YOUTH NOW FARM is an innovative farming project launched in 2017. It brings together key agricultural activities with youth engagement, youth skills development, mentorship and employment opportunities. This farming project will increase food production for Ottawa residents, raise awareness of and access to locally grown food, support the positive development of marginalized youth, and benefit the community and agriculture industry through youth engagement and training.

The Youth Now Farm is located on Russell Road in Ottawa (ON) on over 70 acres of land that we lease from the National Capital Commission (NCC). In the short-term, we will conduct the following activities:

AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES
  • Raise pigs, chickens, and turkeys for meat to sell (sheep coming soon!)
  • Raise horses for youth programming, to help youth build trust, connection, skills and marketable skills
  • Run a market garden to produce and sell a variety of vegetables and other foods on the roadside and locally
  • Produce hay to feed livestock and to sell excess to local farmers
  • Produce corn to sell and to create a corn maze for visitors as a fun engagement and learning opportunity

President Joan ended the meeting promptly at 1:30pm.
