Location: Zoom meeting - Scribe: Scott Vetter

Announcements

  • Rosemary reported that half of the Gian Tiger gift cards have been distributed and the remainder will be given out over the next week.
  • President Joan said that she will be meeting with Jonny at Scotiabank to finalize preparations for e-transfer. Early in the new year we should be able to send our payments via Inteerac email transfer.
  • Jeanine gave an update on the girls school in Uganda. We have money set aside to be sent to the school for their next semester in February.

Discussion

President Joan led an enthusiastic discussion on speakers. What topics our club is interested in (environmental, physical health and mental health, science/medicine...) as well as how they will be presented (via Zoom, to a broader audience of all Rotary clubs and general public...). It was also seen as an opportunity to increase membership (engage prospects with interesting speakers, approach speakers to consider joining...)

Ringing in Good Cheer
Captain Jeff Arkell popped in to our Zoom meeting to thank us for looking after the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle this past Saturday at Loblaws South Keys. Our volunteering and demonstrated good cheer raised $1,189. Overall, the Kettle campaign is doing well despite fewer kettle locations this year. The spirit of giving seems to be pandemic-proof!

Rotary Club of Ottawa South Annual General Meeting

President Joan led the AGM. Financials were reviewed; Sam will file with CRA to maintain our charitable status.

A committee will be formed to develop implementation plans based on the Club's strategic planning sessions last year. We're all looking forward to a better year with more fundraising opportunities.

No, this isn't the promo poster for a new Hollywood blockbuster (nice leotard Gary, you been working out?), it is the December 16, 2020 Zoom meeting of the Rotary Club of Ottawa South.
