Announcements

  • Welcome to our guest speaker Diana Cartwright, Trade Commissioner for Ontario with Trade Commissioner Services, Global Affairs Canada
  • Chris reminded everyone that it is time to start thinking about golf. Not actually golfing - like Mack was doing today while we were meeting - but making a list of who can buy a Tee Sign, and who can provide an item for the auction, and who might put together a foursome to golf in the tournament.
  • Scott reminded everyone that Happy Goat has created a new blend just for us: Community Blend. They have started roasting the mix of Brazilian and Ethiopian beans and we can soon start selling it. We're getting labels printed and a website produced to help us promote our new fundraiser.
Jeanine's Rotary Moment

One pf the feature articles in the February edition of Rotary Magazine is about Rotary's Centers for Peace. On of which is the Makerere University in Uganda.

Jeanine noted that Makerere University has a campus in Mbarara, Uganda, which is where the girls school we have supported is situated. Rotary makes a big world small.

Meeting Environmental Challenges with Clean Tech
Diana Cartwright, Trade Commissioner, Ontario Region

Diana gave a very dynamic and enjoyable presentation on how Ontario-based companies are helping to meet environmental challenges with clean tech.

She started by explaining the role that the Trade Commissioner Service plays in facilitating Canadian companies in global markets. Read more on the Trade Commissioner Services website.

Then she walked us through different areas of clean tech, highlighting many companies and their innovative solutions and approaches.

It was very informative and extremely interesting. We were amazed at how technology is being applied to address current and coming issues of creating, storing, sharing, saving and re-using energy. And impressed with the ingenuity and drive of many Ontario-based companies.

Diana Cartwright is thanked by Scott Vetter for her engaging and informative presentation on Clean Energy and Climate Change.
