Gary charmed his way around the table as he collected loonies and our stories of gratitude.
50/50
To switch things up, Sam handled the 50/50 draw rather than having the winning ticket. Melissa was the lucky ticket holder, but the fiendish Joker eluded her. Pot is officially $200ish.
Guest Speaker
Ernie Clarke - Master Electrician
Earle gave a very interesting and informative talk about the electrical trade and specifically about surge protection.
A surge is a narrow and intense spike on the line. The most common, and most powerful, source is lightning. Powerful as a billion volts, fast as 2,000 mph, and five times hotter than the surface of the sun. So, stop licking wall outlets.
Single point of use surge protectors are commonly used and should be to safeguard electronics and appliances. You should look for surge protectors that are guaranteed for at least 3,000 joules. The higher the better. Reliable point-of-use surge protectors start around $80.
Whole house units are hard-wired to the electrical panel and safeguard everything from spikes from and brown-outs. Reliable whole house surge protectors start around $180 and should be installed by a licensed electrician.
Earle recommends that youth consider the trades and being an electrician in particular. There is a growing need, the average of electricians is 57.
President Alex ended the meeting promptly at 1:30 pm.
