Rotaract Club Hosts a Social Evening
Rotaract Club of Ottawa South hosted a social evening on November 22, and a great time was had by all.
The Rotaract Club of Ottawa South, which calls Carleton University home, invited members of the Rotary Club of Ottawa South to a get-together on Monday evening. It was held at KS on the Keys, where the Rotary Club meets regularly for lunch on Wednesdays.

There was a good turn-out from both clubs. It was great opportunity for members to learn more about each other and network. Rotaract President, Jeffrey Parkhouse addressed the gathering and stressed his interest in having activities that both clubs could enjoy and interact.

Announcements (brought to you by Alex, our gavel-gonging enthusiast)
  • Ian reminded us that:
    • This Saturday at 2pm is the reception for Hutch at St Timothy’s Church (2400 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, ON  K1H 7N1)
    • RCOS family Christmas party will be Saturday, December 9 from 11am – 2pm at KS.
    • Wednesday, December 13 is our next General Meeting
    • Friday, February 23 is the annual Trivia Night hosted by Stittsville club. We need (intelligent) volunteers (might have to go outside the club)
  • Alex reminded us of the Dominica Fundraiser: Saturday, November 25 from 10am – 6pm at the Cultural Arts Studio (40 Colonnade Rd.)
  • Bernie will have a date for the 2018 golf tournament soon. He asked that the club throw some extra support behind our biggest fundraiser as there are fewer people on the committee this year. Follow-up with Bernie directly.
  • Jeffery Parkhouse invited us to a Coffeehouse at Carleton to raise funds for ShelterBox. Jan 25 at 8pm. (Jeffery also suggested we donate to the Carleton Rowing team next Tuesday, donations will be matched. And Bernie chimed in support for the Hockey team.)
  • Rosemary updated us on Jeff Sirrs. He is doing quite well, and even took Para Transport to work for a few hours yesterday! Everyone was glad to hear of his progress and expressed their wishes for a speedy recovery, so he can start coming to lunch again.
  • Carlo reminded us of our first social dinner: November 30 at Supreme Kabob 2750 Iris Street. Please advise Carlo if you plan to attend and whether you will be accompanied by one or more persons.

Happy Bucks
Ever-so-happy Rosemary emceed our stories of gratitude and happiness. She knows how to work a room, she even got $5 from Bernie!

50/50
Hector resumed his deck dealing duties and asked Monique to draw the winning ticket. It was hers… hmmmm. However, Hector held her at bay, as she drew the 9 of Diamonds, not the Joker.

Presentation on Polo in the Park Ottawa
Monique and the PITPO committee (but mainly Monique) have been busy with many exciting developments for next year’s Polo in the Park Ottawa:
  • Date is July 7, 2018 – a much better time of the year to engage families and people looking for summer events.
  • It will be from 11am – 5pm with a Whisky and Wine tasting afterwards.
  • PITPO will be the kick-off of Wesley Clover Parks International and National Horse events. So, we will benefit from being part of their marketing and save some of the site set-up costs.
  • Monique will be donating her time to arrange vendors (Boutique Alley and Food) for our event as well as the horse jumping events — 3 weekends. A more attractive deal for all vendors, and RCOS.
These improvements should have a tremendously positive impact on our event next year.

President Joan ended the meeting promptly at 1:30pm.
