The RCOS was chartered in June 1967 specifically to serve the needs of the swiftly growing community in the southern part of the National Capital Region.

From the day of founding, the Club has focused on community service and finding ways to augment the many services offered to children, seniors and the disadvantaged in Ottawa South.

The club's flagship project is ROTEL, a 54 room motel facility that serves patients and families in Ontario who have need of accommodation as a result of medical treatment at Ottawa hospitals, particularly the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

The club does not forget its international commitments and has sponsored many projects in developing countries to help build or improve schools, sanitation and water facilities.
