Announcements
  • Miracle League field opening Saturday May 7 Dawn and Julia will attend
  • Dawn has reached out to the High Schools we support with bursaries and is starting to hear back from them.
  • RCOS is looking to sponsor Jeff Parkerhouse (previous RYLA participant) for a Youth Leadership program in Washington ($400)
  • Strawberry Social – Saturday June 18 at Emerald Links: fundraiser for our refugee family
  • Metro Ottawa Rotary Club is hosting a Trivia Night: ask for details
  • Nabil Oudeh (DG Elect) has invited everyone to his changeover night at St. Elias on Wednesday June 22. Cost is $30.
  • Dawn will send a questionnaire/survey to all members to measure member engagement. Our lunch attendance has fallen dramatically and we’re looking for answers to foster a more engaged and active club. Be sure to complete the survey promptly.
  • Next Meeting: May 11 at the Hunt. Rouba Al-Fattal will be talking about the Refugee Program

Roses
Monique said we are currently at 371 dozen with a few more trickling in. Volunteers for delivering roses was arranged. Hopefully we will raise close to $6,000 for our Club projects! Many thanks to Joan, Monique and Maria and the team, as well as those who sold roses.
 
Golf
Bernie announced that our foursomes are sold out, great news! He urges all members to actively sell Tee Signs and try to get good items for the auction.
 
Notes from General Assembly
Finances
Patrick reviewed our current financial state (we’re doing OK) and presented a new format for reporting which is easy to understand. It was well received by the members. Patrick noted that receivables from members was too high and encouraged everyone to check their statement and make their account current.
 
Community Services
Jonny updated us on his active portfolio. $40,700 has been spent thus far with $2,300 still to disburse. In addition, it was decided that the High School bursaries ($3K) and the Syrian family refugees ($7.5K) will also flow thorough Community Services. Jonny thanked Jeff, Ori, Gary and Sam for their help on the projects.
 
International
Julia brought us up-to-date on the many projects she and her committee are looking after:
1)  Joan will be acting Chair of the International Committee and Gary will be Foundation Chair during my leave of absence from July 1st to end of October.
 
2) Of the Budget of  just over $47,900:
a) $21,800 has been accumulated over the last four years from existing Club funds allocated at $5,000 per year plus a few extra items.
b)  $$26,100 for Dominica Relief Efforts ($1600 from Chesterville Club; $9,5000 from matching grant; $13,500 from fundraising efforts; $735 from club members; and $735 from our Disaster Relief Budget matching club member contributions.
 
Budget Allocation:
a) $19,900 sent to Dominica for re-establish the Coulibistrie Primary School in Dominica as a result of Tropical Storm Erika.
b) $185 to Chapala (Mexico) Sunrise Rise Rotary to send a child to school
c) $27,800 remaining will be allocated to the following projects: assist the Campbell Primary School in Dominica (Tropical Storm Erika); Model Farm in Dominica; and Jiggers Project in Uganda
 
President Dawn Cooper ended the meeting at 1:30pm.
